Oh Canada!
Well the government has fallen. I tend to agree with Jason Carvalho; I’m generally vote Liberal but I see this as a good thing. It shakes up the status quo and helps the parties to revitalize themselves into new directions.
I also found this graph, from a recent Economist article about the state of politics in Canada, very interesting. Our openness to immigration from other parts of the world is just another reason why I’m proud to be Canadian.
I can’t wait for the election so I can do my part in deciding the future of this country.
Before you get all excited about Canada’s openness toward immigrants, consider that most immigrants to Canada regret having come here several years after their arrival. The reason… a social and economic system that does not recognize their skills and achivevements. Sure you can come to Canada with a PhD in engineering from India or China, but you had better be prepared to wait tables in a restaurant.

I know this comment is old but wanted to reply anyway. To say that “most” immigrants regret coming to Canada is ridiculous!…especially since you don’t back it up with any facts. If they hate it so much they’re free to go back. No one forces them to stay here.
Unfortunately the reality in a lot of developing countries is that education can be “bought.” How can people trust a degree from a place where a student could have just paid off professors to get it?
And besides, what is wrong with waiting tables in a restaurant as long as you have goals and a plan to better yourself? If an immigrant arrives with a PhD but no knowledge of the culture, working styles or connections and expects to be earning a six-figure income within the first month of arrival then yes, I can see why they would regret coming. But the regret is a result of them deceiving themself through arrogance. It has nothing to do with the place.
If you don’t give your best effort while waiting tables, why would people think you would give your best effort in other situations?
